St. Bernard officials seeking boats

Officials in St. Bernard Parish are seeking commercial fishermen with boats for a possible oil-skimming operation.

Specifically, officials are seeking steel or aluminum V-bottom boats capable of running outside of the Chandeleur Islands. Boats should have a 300 horsepower engine, at minimum, and be at least 30 feet long.

Parish officials said a flotilla is being organized as a precautionary measure but that it doesn’t necessarily mean there is oil in the area. These vessels could end up being used as part of a skimming operation, to collect oil and transfer it to a barge.
